COLORING APP
With the COVID-19 pandemic, I started to realize that there were not a lot of apps for kids that did not include ads and in-app purchases. I designed, built, and launched this app on Android and iOS so that parents wouldn't have to worry about unmonitored content or unauthorized purchases.
My role
Since this is a self-initiated project, I was responsible for all aspects of the project including, design, development, marketing, and obtaining audio/music.
PROCESS: In the image above, you can see snapshots of updates and changes I made over the course of the project. Through trial and error, as well as allowing my 4-year-old daughter to try the app, I was able to see what features were working and were not. The app had to be simple, intuitive, and easy to interact with.
MUSIC & AUDIO: Having great sound effects and music is key for a great app and can really change the mood and aesthetics. In comparing other apps geared toward children, the music is typically fast, peppy, or even a bit chaotic. I really wanted my app to feel calming with soothing piano tones and worked with a composer from Fiverr to get the type of feeling I was going for.
FEATURES: The biggest feature was a slidable color chooser on the right and a slider on the left to change the size of your brush. Unlike other coloring apps, this app allows painted colors to go outside the lines. This helps users to fine-tune their coordination skills by practicing staying within the lines.
FINAL PRODUCT: With the final product ready, I was really excited to launch this app, and with additional beta testing, eventually launched this app on both Android and iOS.
DOWNLOADS & RESPONSE: Since launching in May 2020. I have reached over 380+ downloads and had some customers reach out to me saying that they were thankful for the app because it was safe for their kids or younger siblings.
